Law in a Changing Global Legal Order

Research at the European Institute of Law (EIL) examines the evolution of law and legal institutions in response to contemporary technological, societal and global challenges. Our research engages with national, European and international legal frameworks, combining doctrinal legal research with comparative and interdisciplinary approaches to understand how legal principles, institutions and regulatory models develop and interact across jurisdictions.

EIL's current research places particular emphasis on artificial intelligence, data protection and governance, digital infrastructure, fundamental rights and the administration of justice. Through comparative and cross-jurisdictional research, we seek to identify areas of convergence and divergence, assess emerging regulatory approaches, and contribute to the development of legal frameworks capable of responding to technological change while safeguarding fundamental rights and the rule of law.
