A Brief Analysis of the Supreme People’s Court of the People’s Republic of China (SPC) Opinions  on the Adjudication of Artificial Intelligence-Related Disputes in Accordance with the Law

By Dongshu Zhou

On 7 September 2026, the Supreme People’s Court of the People’s Republic of China (SPC) issued the Opinions on Adjudicating Disputes Involving Artificial Intelligence in Accordance with Law. In the absence of a standalone AI law in China, the Opinions clarify how existing legal frameworks, including the Civil Code, Copyright Law, Patent Law, Anti-Unfair Competition Law, and Personal Information Protection Law, apply to disputes involving artificial intelligence.
